PhD in Politics and Public Administration - Governing the Green Transition in Shipping under Geopolitical Turbulence

The Department of Social Sciences and Business (ISE), Roskilde University, invites applications for a position as PhD Fellow as part of the research project The Maritime Knowledge HUB from February 1st, 2027, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position as PhD is limited to a period of 3 years. The project The PhD project will be an integral part of a social science work package within the Maritime Knowledge HUB, where the purpose is to examine the development and implementation of global climate regulation in shipping. Focusing on the policy process around the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Net-Zero Framework, the project will explore how geopolitical tensions influence transnational and cross-sector collaboration among public and private actors in the policy process and how institutional conditions enable or constrain their ability to manage these tensions. The project is expected to examine these issues, at least in part, from a Danish perspective (e.g., the role of the Danish Maritime Authority and Danish business organizations).
